A great deal of ink has been spilled over Generation X-including our (ir)religious character. Just last week, The New York Times op-ed page ran yet another ironic Xer treatise on life in late-twentieth-century America. "The twentieth century has seen the death of traditional religious, social, and political institutions," wrote this Xer, adding, "Older people see nothing in this but chaos and despair, but 25-to-35ers see a chance to use Quark to publish cool magazines about the death of traditional religious, social, and political institutions!"

Regeneration Quarterly is living proof that the media-induced hype about our generation doesn't tell the whole story. Many members of our generation still take traditional institutions seriously-even if that means changing or challenging them. In fact, this issue of RQ (produced, naturally using Quark) explores Xers' relationship to one "traditional" religion: Christianity We don't claim to offer the whole story-after all, there isn't one story to tell. But we do provide a range of perspectives on Xers' complex relationship to the faith. And because one of the big stories about Xers and Christianity is that they are seeking out new spiritual homes, RQ is including a section on "spiritual pilgrimages."

Readers of this journal may suspect that we are overly partial to evangelical Christianity. But I can assure you that we have no evangelical predilection. In fact, I entered the Roman Catholic Church this year and am firmly committed to representing my new brethren-as well as Orthodox and mainline Protestant Christians-in our pages.
