A Landscape with Dragons: The Battle for Your Child's Mind, Michael O'Brien (Ignatius, 1998), 260 pp., $12.95. A challenging discussion of the impact of media on the development of children's moral and intellectual vision.

Of Woman Born: Motherhood As Experience and Institution, Adrienne Rich (Norton, 1986), 304 pp., $14.95. This award-winning poet and writer considers the experience of motherhood from intellectual, spiritual, and personal perspectives.

The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager, Thomas Hine (Bard, 1999), 324 pp., $24.00. Hine traces the rise of the category "teenager" from the early twentieth century to the present, and argues for a reconsideration of young people and their relationship to the larger community.
