This award-winning poet and writer considers the experience of motherhood from intellectual, spiritual, and personal perspectives. The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager, Thomas Hine (Bard, 1999), 324 pp., $24.00. Hine traces the rise of the category "teenager" from the early twentieth century to the present, and argues for a reconsideration of young people and their relationship to the larger community.
